The Hesperia Police Department is responsible for enforcing Michigan Laws, Village ordinances and maintaining order.

The Hesperia Police Department currently operates out of one station located at 33 East Michigan Avenue in the Village of Hesperia, MI. Located just east of the intersection of North Davison Avenue, and East Michigan Avenue in downtown Hesperia MI.

Currently the department consists of 4 members (1 Police Chief, 3 Patrol Officers). The Hesperia Police Department is dispatched through the Newaygo and Oceana County Sheriff's Office. The Village of Hesperia's Police Department provides a wide range of law enforcement services to the community. The patrol division performs crime preventive patrols, responds to emergency calls and other requests for service or assistance, selectively enforces traffic laws and investigates reported criminal activity and prepares criminal cases for prosecution. The department also maintains statistical data on all traffic crashes and monitors the community's traffic signs, signals, and devices. 

 


Presently, the Hesperia Police Department has reciprocal agreements with the Newaygo County Sherriff's Department, and the Oceana County Sheriff's Department to provided additional coverage in the event of a large scale incident.

The Police Department office hours are from 8:00 am - 4:300 pm Monday - Friday.
The Records Division is open Monday - Friday 8:00am 4:30 pm for copies of reports.

4.   If I Am The Victim Of A Crime, What Should I Do?
Call 911 as soon as possible. If you are need of medical care let the dispatcher know right away. Stay on the line with the dispatcher until he or she tells you that you can hang up they may ask you to hold while they send a police officer to your location. 

 

5.   Where Do I Pay My Traffic Ticket?
Depending where the ticket was issued, moving violations are to be paid at The Newaygo County Court, White Cloud MI. or the Oceana County Court, Hart MI.

6.   How much is my traffic ticket?
You will need to call the Newaygo or Oceana County Court for the proper waiver amount.

7.   Does The Hesperia Police Department Accept Personal Checks?
Personal Checks are accepted for Police operations, fines, and Zoning permits. Checks should be made out to the Village of Hesperia for Police operations or Zoning operations. It is wise not to send cash via mail to pay fines, however you may pay the parking fine in person with cash.

8. ;  Where Do I Pay My Parking Ticket Fines?
Parking Violations can be paid in person or sent to the Hesperia Village Police Department:

9.   Can I Make A Police Report Over The Phone?  
Any incident that requires an actual report must be done in person. If it is an incident that has occurred where you currently are and have not left the scene an officer will respond to your location within the Village. However an incident that is a late reported incident or you are no longer at the location of the incident we will ask you to come to the station to make your report. Of course there are exceptions in some cases.

10.   How Do I Get A Police Report And Is There A Cost?
Police reports can be obtained at the Hesperia Village Police Department. The Hesperia Police Department office hours are Monday - Friday 8:00am 4:30pm. You should call first to find out if a report is complete and ready for distribution. You can come in and pick up a copy of the report during the above hours at a cost of $5.00 per page. If you cannot make it during the posted office hours you can call and request a copy that can be made ahead of time and it will be left for you to pick up and pay. You can also request a copy of a report by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope with your request and payment.

11.   During a Power Outage, How long is the power going to be off? Who do I call?
The Village of Hesperia Village Police Department has no control over power outages. In inclement weather the likeliness of a power outage is high. During these times Police Dispatchers can be very busy handling emergency phone calls of accidents and alarms and other nature and in some instances are also dealing with power outage within the Police Station as well. We of course will continue to help in case of emergencies, and especially if you see power lines down. To report routine outages without any sign of power lines down you will need to call Consumers Energy automated outage line. You will need to give them your phone number that is associated with you electric account so they will know that your power is out. To report a power outage and get the latest restoration information any time, day or night, call one of the phone numbers listed below.

12.   When And Where Are Fireworks?   
Fireworks dates vary year to year; usually fireworks are scheduled on the July 4th and can be seen from the Hesperia Dam/Ballpark area.
